31 medal decisions in eight sports disciplines during five exciting days. 800 athletes and coaches from all over the world, 500 volunteers from sport associations and clubs, as well as thousands of visitors at the Homebase and at all the other venues. The colourful Innsbruck 2016 International Children’s Games (ICG) and the 1st Tyrolean School Winter Games successfully ended with the Closing Ceremony.
An unforgettable week in the Heart of the Alps was declared open. The International Children’s Games were declared open at the Olympiaworld Innsbruck with a festive ceremony yesterday. A very special moment – not only for the young athletes.

At the moment many people are seeking shelter in Europe – among them also many unaccompanied minors, who have come on their own from Afghanistan to Austria. Since December 2015, 32 boys between 14 and 17 years have been living at the boarding school of the Tyrolean Tourism College in Absam (Tiroler Fachberufsschule für Tourismus) and are waiting there for the decision on asylum. Sports and movement are an ideal possibility for young persons to reduce the waiting time, find something useful to do and establish contact to locals without already perfectly speaking the language of the country.

Yesterday, Thursday, the time had come for the official ICG Kick Off and with it the time to join the colourful world of the Innsbruck 2016 International Children’s Games. In the presence of 500 invited guests, the Innsbruck Delegation was presented for the first time and the clothing of the ICG 2016 volunteers was revealed in a fashion show.

220 days before the opening ceremony of the International Children’s Games (ICG) in January 2016 the Innsbruck 2016 organisers are already getting started with the Freestyle Days at the Landhausplatz: contests, workshops in different trend sports from BagJump to Graffiti; an Open-Air Concert with OK KID; shows, DJs, competitions and much more!
