Freestyle Skiing at the International Children´s Winter Games 2016 consists of a Slopestyle and a Mixed Team Ski Cross-Event, both featuring competitions for boys and girls. This sport has grown enormously in popularity in the past few years.
Slopestyle is a modern and exciting event, very popular with younger generations. In Slopestyle, the young athletes descend and perform tricks on a freestyle course with a variety of features including kickers, rails, hits and tables. Riders are free to select their own line depending on their technical ability and creativity. A panel of judges awards points depending on the technical difficulty of the manoeuvres and other factors including style and the height of the jumps performed.
The Mixed Team Ski Cross will be held on the ski cross slope and encompasses all elements and features but is organized as a team event. Each team consists of 4 team members which compete together on the same course. Each team has one qualification run and the aggregated time of the first 3 members crossing the finish line will determine the ranking. The final run of the top 10 teams from the qualification will define the medal winning teams.
