The Innsbruck 2016 International Children’s Winter Games (ICG) mark the start of a unique volunteer programme in the Tyrol!
The Volunteer Team Tirol is a project launched by the innsbruck-tirol sports gmbh (ITS) with the aim of promoting and developing sports volunteering in the Tyrol in the medium and long term.
Innsbruck and the Tyrol often host events which would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of volunteers. As well as the ICG 2016, the Tyrol is set to welcome the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championships (2016), the Luge World Championships (2017), the Biathlon World Championships (2017), the Climbing World Championship (2018) and the Nordic Ski World Championships (2019). With so many world-class events going on in the region in the coming years, the ICG 2016 is the ideal opportunity to launch a long-term volunteer community in Innsbruck and the Tyrol.
The ITS, which was also responsible for planning and carrying out the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in 2012, wishes to build on the success of the YOG and its Volunteers (almost 1400 YOG Volunteers) in order to support volunteer management at future events. To achieve this, a volunteer platform has been developed in cooperation with the Kufstein University of Applied Sciences in order to create a network of (sports) volunteers, facilitate administration and motivate Volunteers by making them aware of more events where their help is needed.
